NRW. Summer feeling until midday, then the sharp change: The German Weather Service is warning of storms, gusts and hail in North Rhine-Westphalia from Thursday afternoon.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms: The German Weather Service warns of severe weather in North Rhine-Westphalia. From the afternoon onwards, thunderstorm cells will move across the state from the Eifel. The risk of flooding increases locally in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The German Weather Service (DWD) expects it from Thursday afternoon severe thunderstorms: with squalls, hail and showers. This is the first half of the day summery. The temperatures climb to 26 degrees Celsius by the afternoon.
“The thunderstorms move very slowly, so there can be large amounts of rain locally of more than 30 liters per square meter in a short period of time,” explains Verena Leyendecker, qualified meteorologist at Wetteronline. This creates a risk of flooding. “The main risk of thunderstorms is definitely heavy rain.” The southwest of the state, the Eifel, the Rhineland, the Lower Rhine and the Bergisches Land could be particularly badly hit. But she also expects thunderstorms in the Ruhr area and Sauerland.
