The Yinxu Museum in Anyang, Henan officially opened its new building to the public on February 26, becoming the first national museum to showcase the merchant civilization in a panoramic manner. The museum, located in central China’s Henan Province, is a major archaeological site that presents the Shang civilization.

Covering an area of about 22,000 square meters, the new exhibition hall displays nearly 4,000 sets of cultural relics including bronzes, pottery, jades, and oracle bones. More than three-quarters of these precious artifacts were unveiled for the first time, showcasing new archaeological findings.

The exhibition at the Yinxu Museum focuses on the theme of “Great Shang Civilization” and includes three basic displays, four special exhibitions, and one immersive digital exhibition. It delves into the history of the Shang Dynasty, oracle bone science, archaeological history, and the world spread of Shang civilization, highlighting its important role in Chinese and human civilization development.

In a speech at a symposium on cultural inheritance and development, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of understanding the history of Chinese civilization to promote its creative transformation and innovative development. The Yinxu Museum’s new building contributes to this goal by showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Shang Dynasty and its significance in shaping Chinese civilization.

The opening of the Yinxu Museum’s new building marks a significant milestone in the preservation and promotion of Chinese cultural relics and archaeological excavations. With its comprehensive presentation of the Shang civilization, the museum continues to play a crucial role in educating the public about China’s rich history and cultural legacy.
