World Class, the competition for the best bartenders

In KienyKe.com we talk with Alfonso IbanezTrade Manager Advocacy of Diageo Colombia, to learn a little more about his opinion on what a bartender who wants to win this competition and in the industry in general has to have.

KienyKe: What truly makes a contestant stand out on World Class?

Alfonso Ibáñez: What makes a contestant special is that he is very complete. He must have a lot of knowledge of techniques and ingredients, but he must also be very curious in terms of innovation. You can’t miss the charisma, storytelling and tranquility. We must understand that they are going to compete with the best in Colombia and the world, as well as present their creations to the great universal gurus of the industry.

Look: Would you say that each edition the criteria are more rigorous? Because?

AI: The criteria have always been and will be extremely rigorous both in Colombia and in the global final. It is true that in Colombia we increasingly have more level and creativity, which increases the quality of the participants incrementally and makes it more difficult for us to choose finalists and the winner.

Look: What is your best advice that you would give to someone starting out in this field?

AI: I consider that the worst attempt is the one that is not made. Many people who are starting out feel rushed to introduce themselves. The best way to let go is by practicing and participating. All editions we have people who have many presentations and each year you feel better concepts, executions and maturity.

Look: Why did you choose Paloma as the central axis of the competition?

AI: We chose the Paloma because it is a classic cocktail and easy to replicate everywhere in the world, therefore, designing the Paloma of the future involves more creativity, study and development. We want to discover the best of our Latin American bartenders!
