In an important speech at the third plenary session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech emphasizing the need to deeply promote the party’s self-revolution and resolutely win the tough and protracted battle against corruption. Prominent members of the CPC attended the meeting, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qiding, and Xue Xiang, with Li Xi presiding over the session. Jinping pointed out that although significant victories have been achieved in the anti-corruption struggle, the situation remains grim and complex and the fight must continue.
The Party Central Committee aims to tackle corruption and self-revolution head-on, emphasizing that 2023 is the first year to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The key focus is to resolutely eliminate bad apples among party members and cadres, strengthen and promote the 20th Party Congress’ decisions and arrangements. Jinping’s speech addressed the need for deep reform to prevent the spread of corruption, purifying the political ecology, and strengthening the party’s centralized and unified leadership in the fight against corruption.
He urged those attending to fully implement self-revolutionary measures and strengthen the construction of a team of disciplinary inspection and supervision cadres, reinforcing the need for the party to take practical actions to obey the party’s command and fully fulfill their responsibilities. Jinping underscored the need to deepen the party’s self-revolutionary practice and eliminate the soil and conditions that generate corruption problems. The fight against corruption involves a high-pressure posture to punish corruption, embrace deep reforms, and improve anti-corruption laws and regulations.
The session was held in the form of a video and telephone conference, with branch venues set up in each province, autonomous region, municipality directly under the Central Government, Xinjiang Production, Construction Corps, and relevant military units. Li Xi delivered a work report entitled “In-depth study and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on the Party’s self-revolution, and in-depth promotion of high-quality development of discipline inspection and supervision work in the new journey.” The report called on all members to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches to ensure comprehensive progress in the battle against corruption.
