A 21-year-old woman was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Leuven on Thursday. This is reported by the Leuven local police. The young woman was hit by a truck while riding her bicycle. It was probably a blind spot accident, police said.
The accident took place on Thursday morning around 8:30 am on Koning Boudewijnlaan in Heverlee. “The woman crossed the turning lane from Koning Boudewijnlaan to Tervuursvest in Heverlee by bicycle, just as a truck arrived,” the police said. “There was a collision at the crossing for cyclists. The cyclist suffered a broken jaw and serious injuries to a leg and ankle. According to statements from witnesses and from the 48-year-old truck driver, the cyclist came from an access road to the Arenberg campus. As a result, she sat in the blind spot of the truck and the driver did not notice her.”
The cyclist was taken to the University Hospital Gasthuisberg for treatment. The truck driver gave a negative alcohol and drug test. The police discovered the accident and drew up a report.
