A serious accident happened at the Leuven bus station on Monday evening around 5 p.m. A 27-year-old woman was killed.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m., when a bus came from Bondgenootlaan and wanted to drive onto the quays of the bus station.
“A woman walking on the pedestrian lane was grabbed. She was seriously injured,” says prosecutor’s office spokesperson Sarah Callewaert. “The emergency services did everything they could at the scene. The woman had to be resuscitated and was taken to hospital. Unfortunately, she still died there from her injuries.”
The public prosecutor’s office has appointed a medical examiner and also seized the camera images of the station area for an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
“The driver of the Lijn bus, a 46-year-old man, is still being interrogated,” says Callewaert. “He gave a negative alcohol and drug test. But it was lawfully present on the pedestrian lane, so further investigation must reveal what exactly happened.”
