The Tallinn Administrative Court rejected the appeal of the Metsküla school, Anneli Vilu, spokeswoman for the Tallinn Administrative and District Court, told Lääne Elu.

According to the parents of Metsküla, the decision is incomprehensible to them: “We continue to run the school and appeal against the unfair decision to show our children that we fight for justice and for what is dear to us. Otherwise, we would not be able to teach the children on Saturday to look at during the celebration of the Republic Day. They dance in national clothes and sing about their homeland, but it’s as if we’re giving up on protecting their home school?! What would that teach them?!”

On March 24 last year, the Lääneranna municipal council passed the decision to close the Metsküla school. On April 15, the decree came into effect, by which the school was deleted from the list of residential schools. The parents of Metsküla appealed to the administrative court to cancel the decision and regulation of the municipal council.

“The court noted that the running of small schools and the organization of the school network as a whole depends on the financial capabilities of the state and local government,” Vilu reported. The court noted that if the public authority does not have the means to maintain the existing school network, it is impossible to make changes, regardless of which educational network should be considered ideal.
