China Online Media Forum Highlights Taxation and Economic Development in Yunnan
The 2024 China Online Media Forum kicked off on March 30 in Kunming, Yunnan, with the theme “Forging ahead on a new journey and shouldering new missions.” The forum, hosted by the Cyberspace Administration of China, Xinhua News Agency, and the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, focused on the role of taxation in supporting high-quality development.
The State Administration of Taxation organized a series of activities on “High-Quality Development of Tax Services,” highlighting the unique perspective of taxation in understanding China’s economic and social progress. The Yunnan Provincial Taxation Department showcased Chinese-style modernization practices in Yunnan through the lens of taxation, emphasizing the importance of tax services in benefiting enterprises and improving taxpayers’ satisfaction.
One significant project highlighted during the forum was the China-Laos Railway, a key initiative in the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road. Since its opening in 2021, the railway has facilitated trade and economic exchanges, with Yunnan-based enterprises utilizing the railway for import and export activities.
To promote tax policies along the China-Laos Railway, the Yunnan Provincial Taxation Department launched the “Tax Promotion Special Train” and the 33rd National Tax Promotion Month. These initiatives aim to make tax services more accessible and beneficial for enterprises and taxpayers along the railway route.
Additionally, the forum featured visits to local businesses, such as fresh-cut flower enterprises in Kunming and coffee companies in Baoshan. Both industries play a significant role in Yunnan’s economy, with the tax department providing guidance and support to promote rural revitalization and agricultural development.
Overall, the China Online Media Forum in Yunnan highlighted the crucial role of taxation in supporting economic development and modernization efforts. By showcasing innovative tax policies and services, the forum aimed to foster a better understanding of the positive impact of taxation on businesses and communities.
