Zhao Leji, a high-ranking official from China, recently met with Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, in a significant diplomatic encounter. The meeting took place in Pyongyang on April 13, 2024, as part of an official goodwill visit by the Chinese party and government delegation to North Korea.
During the meeting, Zhao Leji conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from General Secretary Xi Jinping to Kim Jong-un. He highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between China and North Korea, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and developing these relations in the face of changing international dynamics.
Zhao Leji and Kim Jong-un discussed the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and North Korea and the “China-North Korea Friendship Year.” Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and deepening the ties between their countries.
Kim Jong-un praised the development achievements of China under General Secretary Xi Jinping’s leadership and affirmed the DPRK’s dedication to enhancing relations with China. The two leaders agreed to collaborate in various fields and exchange experiences in state governance to further solidify their friendship.
Before departing Pyongyang, Zhao Leji visited the staff of the Chinese embassy in North Korea and met with representatives of overseas Chinese in the country. The meeting between Zhao Leji and Kim Jong-un marks a significant step towards fostering stronger ties between China and North Korea in the years to come.
