2nd Bundesliga: Hansa Rostock wins basement duel at Eintracht Braunschweig

As of: March 8, 2024 11:08 p.m

Hansa Rostock celebrated an important victory against Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening in the fight to stay in the 2nd league! The Mecklenburgers won 1-0 (0-0) against the “Lions” in a tough game.

The visitors’ block seemed almost to burst when Kevin Schumacher scored the winning goal for Rostock in this basement duel against shockingly weak Braunschweig in the 72nd minute. Hansa coach Mersad Selimbegovic called for “Eleven Warriors” before the game, and Schumacher’s cheers in front of the traveling fans seemed appropriately martial.

With the threesome away from home, FCH and Lower Saxony swapped places in the table. While Rostock is back in touch with safety in 16th place with 25 points, the recent downward spiral of the blue and yellow, who are now second to last, continues.

BTSV without courage, Hansa hits the crossbar

It was a tough game in the first half between two relegation candidates who were clearly afraid of losing. Nobody wanted to make the first mistake, so both teams watched each other and shied away from taking risks. However, Hansa was the dominant team, but hardly created any chances to score. The best of these was missed by Svante Ingelsson, who shot the ball onto the underside of the crossbar in the 29th minute.

Eintracht professional Ivanov tries a shot on the move

Four minutes earlier, the “Lions” had missed their best scoring opportunity of the first half. After a corner, Robert Ivanov sent the ball just past the visitors’ goal with a shot on the turn. Otherwise, BTSV, who played uninspired and pomadic, disappointed across the board. There was no sign of the team’s upswing and further development over the past week, Eintracht didn’t take off offensively and played with the handbrake on.

Nothing changed in the second half of the disjointed game. Hansa initially failed to convert their playful superiority into opportunities. The Rostock team often got stuck around the penalty area or made the wrong decision with the penultimate pass. Eintracht had two chances to score through Anthony Ujah (55′, 66′), but they didn’t produce any results.

Schumacher shoots Hansa to victory

And then came Schumacher’s goal (72nd), which gave Hansa a 1-0 lead and seemed to revive the “Lions”, so to speak. Less than two minutes later and with his back against the wall, Anderson Lucoqui missed the huge opportunity to equalize and shot past the Rostock goal, which was guarded by Markus Kolke. There was nothing more possible for Lower Saxony that evening, in the end Hansa celebrated a deserved away win.
