Gianluca Gaudio is the coach of the red and white “miracle”, of the salvation obtained by the Pavese Academy when believing in it had become almost utopia. But it is also much more. He is the general manager of the Sant’Alessio club, the soul of the youth sector (together with the manager Manuel Rossi), the flagship of the Pavia club. In fact, now that the exceptional year of the first team has been archived, he has plunged back into his original functions. “Do you know where I’m going? – he closes with a laugh – to train children born in 2013, which is no less demanding task than training adults. They are the youngest of the basic activity and play five-a-side. You have to be very careful about certain dynamics and always keep a smile on the faces of children. I have fun like crazy ».

All this tells more than a thousand other words who Gianluca Gaudio is. And therefore for the moment it is not yet known whether he will still sit on the Academy bench in 2022-23, simply because he has not yet had time to think about it. «At the moment there are company dynamics that make it impossible for me to think about the future – he explains – on May 25th we will all sit at a table and talk about it serenely. The only thing I can 100% rule out is that he can train elsewhere. Although I feel like saying that if one day an important club should call me my father-in-law (the white and red president Ezio Panigati) would be the first to encourage me, just like he does with the players ». So Gaudio will remain in the big red and white family again next year. The role, however, is still to be defined. «We will have to evaluate some situations together. But it is not excluded that I continue to coach the first team – Gaudio anticipates – also because basically one thing does not eliminate the other, given among other things that I blindly trust the head of the youth sector Manuel Rossi and all our fantastic staff. I admit that these three months on the bench have involved me a lot, I didn’t think it could happen. And I am also flattered by the fact that some of our veterans bother me every day by asking me to stay: I am thinking of Filadelfia, Provasio and also of Vassallo, who has lived in important locker rooms.
