Afghanistan, new attack on Kabul airport: 5 rockets intercepted

by admin

Rome, 30 August 2021 – Maximum alert in Kabul where, after yesterday’s thwarted kamikaze attack, a new terrorist attack attempted with rockets when it was night in Italy was stopped. The C-Ram defense system has intercepted five rockets launched against ‘Hamid Karzai’ international airport. This was reported by an American official to CNN, specifying that there are no victims. According to the official, it is likely that the rockets were launched from Isis-K (the branch of the Isis Province of Khorasan), the terrorist organization that claimed responsibility for last Thursday’s attack in the Afghan capital.

The launch took place from the Salim Karwan neighborhood of the Afghan capital, possibly from a car, and according to news agencies there would have been injuries: it is not clear either the number of people involved or whether the injuries were caused by the action of the terrorists or by the counter-offensive of the rocket interception defense system.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Cabinet Chief Ron Klain briefed the presidente Joe Biden on the attack. The president – the White House reports in a note – was informed that operations continue uninterrupted at the airport and reiterated his order that the commanders “redouble their efforts and do whatever is necessary to protect American forces on the ground” . In Kabul they remain 300 Americans to be evacuated according to the latest data provided by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
