These are very important days in the NBA for the definition of the television agreements that will come into force in the 2025/26 season. According to The Athletic, the league has an agreement in principle with Amazon Prime Video to make the streaming platform one of the main broadcasters of basketball overseas.
The agreement, which should be valid for 10 seasons (starting from 2025/26) should include a “significant” number of regular season and playoff games, with the possible addition of a conference finals series. The NBA would also have an agreement in principle for the renewal with ESPN/ABC (including, as in recent decades, the NBA Finals) and, according to The Athletic, would prefer to conclude negotiations with a total of three broadcasters overall (but the presence of four broadcasters).
It would therefore be a two-horse race between Discovery – owner of TNT Sports, which has broadcast the NBA since 1984 – and Comcast, parent company of NBC which would like to return to broadcasting the NBA after losing the rights in 2002. According to The Athletic, Amazon would also have expressed interest for global NBA rights, which also expire at the end of next season.
