A season to forget: Downhill skier Andreas Sander Image: AP
For the German downhill skiers it was a ski season to forget. Before the World Cup final, Andreas Sander talks about the painful resignations of two teammates, wrong decisions and new tasks.
Mr. Sander, you spoke of a “miserable season” after missing the World Cup final. What went wrong this winter?
There were probably a lot of little things that came together that you can’t influence – or at least not completely. I didn’t start the season too badly. So not outstanding, but I had already developed physically and technically. Unfortunately the opening races did not take place. And then I crashed in the first training session in Val Gardena. And rather violently.
