With Cape Horn now in his rearview mirror, Charles Caudrelier maintains a large lead at the head of the Arkéa Ultim Challenge. A mattress that the skipper of Maxi Edmond de Rothschild manages in a zone of light winds with no interest in accelerating.
According to the test site, a strong depression comes his way and patience could allow him to escape it. At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Caudrelier is 2,566.7 nautical miles (4,755 kilometers) ahead of Armel Le Cléac’h (Maxi Banque Populaire XI) and 2,897 over Thomas Coville (Sodebo Ultim 3).
The duo is taking advantage of favorable conditions in the Pacific to increase their pace. In 24 hours, Le Cléac’h covered 813 nautical miles, just ahead of Coville (768), more than double the distance covered by Caudrelier over the same period (343). Behind, Anthony Marchand (Actual Ultim 3) is 5,785 miles behind the leader while Eric Péron (Adagio) brings up the rear 7,356 miles behind.
