Asd Albuzzano, the passion for table tennis for twenty years

The world of Csi. The company from Pavia seventh in the regional tournament Maierna president-player, the pro Manca dispenses advice

Twenty years celebrated in the best possible way, with excellent results achieved for the Asd Oratorio Albuzzano Tennis Table, affiliated to the Csi: the team of the president (and founder) Amedeo Maierna was in fact ranked seventh (out of 43 companies) in the ranking teams of the Lombard table tennis championship. A more than flattering result, the result of a good overall test of the whole group of athletes, among which Riccardo De Nardi and Nicolò Baldini stood out. The former won the title of Veterans A regional champion (aged between 40 and 60), while the latter earned the third step of the podium in the Juniores (class of 2006). President Maierna himself also performed well, fifth in Veterans B (over 60). It was therefore a birthday full of gratifications for this association founded in 2002, which in addition to the Csi affiliation is also registered with the Italian Table Tennis Federation (Fitet).

«Ours is an important story – explains Maierna – we also arrived in Serie B with Cus Pavia. Then I took a break because I was involved in motorcycling; in 2002 we refounded this small company in Albuzzano, but many people from Pavia have joined us and we have also created other realities present in the area today ». A club that has even counted forty athletes and that has now started again from thirteen elements to regain the lost appearances – as has happened for many clubs in every sporting field – during the two-year interruption due to the pandemic. «In Albuzzano we have 7 tables and therefore we all train at the same time – comments Maierna – every Wednesday there is training, managed by Luca Manca, professional player who occupies the 47th position in the national ranking. Among other things, he too is an athlete who in the past trained at our club ». A team where there is an air of family. And it could not be otherwise, given that they are all volunteers who play for passion and every weekend they face trips hundreds of kilometers away with a spirit of sacrifice. –
