The World Canoe Slalom Championships Junior and under 23 categories ended in Tacen in Slovenia. 34 nations entered for about 250 athletes who competed with paddles on the treacherous track from 6 to 11 July. Among the Junior Azzurri squads there are also the Ivrea canoe Club Matteo Pistoni, in the men’s K1, and Simone Marchegiano, in the men’s Canadian single-seater. In Tacen with the federal technical staff also Lorenzo Biasioli who operates on the Ivrea canoe club.

The first tests in which the Ivrea players are involved are the team competitions. In K1 junior Gabriele Grimandi, Paul Tirler and Matteo Pistoni finished in eleventh position due to several line errors and numerous penalties in the test won by the hosts. Then it’s up to C1 under 23 with Flavio Micozzi, Martino Barzon and Simone Marchegiano who will eventually be ninth. In individual tests fifth place in the final in K1 Junior for Matteo Pistoni who recorded a practically perfect first part of the course and a second one penalized by too many door touches that took away the joy of the podium. In C1 Junior the dream of Simone Marchegiano is shattered in the difficult passage of goal ten, which was skipped with fifty points of penalty. Challenging and physical path that sees him close in the semifinals in twenty-fourth place.

In the Junior Extreme slalom, after passing the battery Matteo Pistoni surrenders in the quarter-finals and will be tenth in the general classification. Instead, transfer to the Chiese river in Vobarno, Brescia, on Sunday 11th for the national slalom competition with the Ivrea canoe club agonists and pre-agonists at the start, who performed well by conquering seven first places and numerous placings on the other steps of the podium. The most precious metal, gold medal, was won by Davide Ghisetti in the C1 Senior male and in the K1 Senior male, Carolina Massarenti in the C1 Senior female, Lucia Pistoni in the K1 Junior female, Pietro Silini and Elia Ciardullo in the C2 Junior male, the C1 Senior team with Davide Ghisetti, Pietro Silini and Elio Maiutto and the K1 Junior female team with Lucia Pistoni, Cecilia Marchegiano and Matilde Preve. –
