The LC Rehlingen will exclude the runners Sara (22) and Sofia Benfares (19) after their positive doping tests. The club in Saarland will also revoke the membership of the eldest sister Selma (24), as chairman Thomas Klein announced on Wednesday.
The board had previously dealt with the issue on Tuesday. The sisters, trained by their French father Samir Benfares, had previously not complied with the written request to leave voluntarily.

The European Championship and World Cup participant Sara Benfares tested positive for testosterone and the blood doping drug Epo. Her father justified this in a French portal by saying that his daughter was suffering from bone cancer and should not have waited to take urgent medication. The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) recently confirmed that Sofia Benfares also tested positive for Epo.

NADA has filed complaints against both sisters with the Saarbrücken public prosecutor’s office for a possible violation of the anti-doping law. NADA has not yet made a decision on either case. Samir Benfares has stated that Sara Benfares will end her career to focus on fighting her illness. Sofia Benfares won bronze in the 3000 meters at the U20 juniors last year.
