Barcelona Advances to Copa del Rey Round of 16, but Suffers Injury Blow
Barcelona secured their spot in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey after defeating Barbastro with a 3-2 victory. Goals from Fermín López, Raphinha, and Lewandowski secured the win for the Barça team. However, the victory was marred by the injury of defender Iñigo Martínez.
Martínez, who came on as a substitute after returning from injury, only lasted 10 minutes on the field before being replaced by Sergi Roberto due to an injury to his left leg. Barcelona announced on Monday that Martinez will miss the Spanish Super Cup as a result of the injury.
“The tests carried out have shown that the first team player Iñigo Martínez has a muscle injury in the femoral biceps of his left leg. It is low and evolution will determine its availability,” the team stated.
According to Diario Sport, Martínez is expected to be sidelined for around four or five weeks, with his goal being to recover in time for the Champions League round of 16 clash against Napoli.
Despite the setback, Barcelona remains hopeful for Martinez’s recovery and looks ahead to their upcoming matches.
