Bassani excellent sixth on the Assen circuit
Axel Bassani, first of the independents

The rider from Feltre (Ducati V4R) actually finished fifth but was penalized by 3 “for a trajectory error

ASSEN (OLANDA)

World Superbike: sixth place for Bassani in race 2. The Feltre rider on his Ducati V4R had crossed the line in fifth position; at the end of the race, however, he was penalized by the race direction by three seconds for having touched the green area of the track on the last lap and therefore officially finished sixth, giving a position to Redding on a BMW. Despite the nasty surprise, the performance of Bassani and his team remains to be framed; in fact, at the finish line he was the first driver among the independent teams. The physical problems accused on Saturday did not recur the next day when Axel managed to obtain an excellent result together with the ninth position collected in the Superpole Race of the morning. Race 1 was won alone by Bautista on Ducati, behind him came the Italian Locatelli on Yamaha while Lecuona on Honda closed the podium. The twist came on lap six when, in an unclear dynamic, Rea and Razgatlioglu ended up on the ground, fortunately without consequences; the Spaniard who won the race and took first place in the drivers’ standings took advantage of what happened. «Saturday I had been ill, I had to give up physically and we had closed the race tenths», Bassani comments at the end of the weekend in Holland, «Sunday went much better, both physically and with the feeling of the bike. We managed to finish fifth but unfortunately at the end of the race they gave us a three second penalty for having touched the green zone on the last lap. Patience, that’s okay. We did a good job and now there is a good foundation. We will see what we can do in Estoril ».
