BMW R 18 The Crown celebrates 100 years of BMW Motorrad –

When Dirk Oehlerking decides to work on the BMW R 18 in his Kingston Custom workshop, the result is always spectacular. Recently, he has created a big stir in the scene with the extraordinary R 18 Spirit of Passionfeaturing a breathtaking streamlined design.

But Oehlerking goes further with his latest masterpiece, the R 18 The Crown, which represents the pinnacle of his creations.

The process of making the R 18 The Crown involved taking apart a new BMW R18, followed by the use of rigid foam and cardboard to mold the shape, lines and design. The aim was to give the bike a powerful, elegant and innovative look.

The design concept of the R 18 The Crown required major changes to the bike’s technology. Oehlerking created a completely new front suspension, with a double-sided wishbone and central suspension strut. The body parts, including the 8 liter fuel tank, were carefully crafted by cutting and bending 2mm thick aluminum plates by hand. The exhaust manifolds, made of stainless steel, have been precision molded.

While retaining the original engine and rear suspension, Oehlerking has successfully integrated numerous standard components into the stunning R 18 The Crown concept. Headlight, dashboard, control unit and footrest system blend seamlessly into the overall design of the bike. To enhance the harmony of the motorcycle, there are accessories such as the Magura clutch and handbrake, Wunderkind rear mudguard and brackets, as well as a saddle made of 2 mm thick aluminum plates covered in genuine leather.

As a finishing touch, Oehlerking has given the R 18 The Crown a Champagne Platinum paint finish with a subtle mother-of-pearl effect. To accentuate the motorcycle’s regal aura, the BMW brand emblem was adorned with a small crown. These details give the R 18 The Crown a level of luxury and refinement worthy of its name.

This presentation marks a significant milestone in the history of BMW Motorrad and in Oehlerking’s illustrious career as a customizer.
