Borussia Dortmund prevails for 1-0 to the detriment of PSG by Luis Enrique, at the end of a match full of intensity. The Parisians, especially in the second half, paid the price little precision in front of goal (and bad luck), unlike the cynicism of filling jugwho escaped the PSG defense in the first half and then struck Donnarumma with a sharp low shot.
The match began with Borussia putting the guests on the ropes pressing very high and not letting the opponents breathe. Until Borussia scored the lead, there weren’t many opportunities: the best ones fell at the feet of Sabitzer, who is seen closing the mirror well by Donnarumma. In the 36th minute, however, after a phase of the match where PSG had managed to partially put the game to sleep with its dribbling, a throw from Schlotterbeck from the back and a deep attack from Füllkrug (kept in play by Marquinhos) were enough to punish the careless defense of the French champions. Donnarumma can do little: the Hanover-born striker’s shot is too violent to be able to repel it effectively. In the second half, PSG wastes the impossible, thanks, at times, to a bit of bad luck, as in the double occasion that fell first on Mbappé’s feet and then on those of Hakimi: their attempts both ended at the inside post. Borussia then has the opportunity to kill the match again with Füllkrug, who however does not direct well from a favorable position. In the end, Dembélé devours the equalizerwho kicks high the suggestion offered to him by Hakimi at the height of the penalty spot.

Borussia played a very intelligent match, attacking PSG’s approach high, falling back in defense once the first line of pressing was missed and striking at the right time. It is certainly the two wingers who make the difference for the hosts, namely Sancho e Adeyemi. If the former made PSG’s left lane go crazy, always skipping past the man, creating numerical superiority and unleashing visionary passes, the latter literally covered the entire field by himself. Defensive retreats, running, tackles, bucking: his performance was nothing short of superlative. Another positive note Brandt together with Füllkrug: the two interacted well especially in the second half. Convincing match also from Ryerson who, especially in the first half of the game, optimally supported his team’s attacks and Sancho in particular.
PSG, all things considered, didn’t play a bad match, but if he wants to go through he must absolutely capitalize on the enormous amount of opportunities he creates. It should be underlined how a double inside post in a single action has rarely been seen (a sign that the Parisians didn’t have luck on their side, unlike Kobel), but on more than one occasion precision was really lacking. The most proactive were Hakimi and Dembélé, but the feeling is that, once numerical superiority was created, there was often no teammate to accompany and take up their suggestions. All the midfield played a dull game, and Mbappé has often been caged by yellow uniforms. On a couple of occasions, however, Donnarumma was fundamental, in particular in the first 45 minutes with a double intervention on Sabitzer.
Borussia therefore wins the first round, however aware that upon his return, away from his fans (who once again gave life to a breathtaking show in the stands), things could get complicated. It is therefore essential for the Germans to avoid lapses in concentration and stay on track. PSG, on the other hand, if they want to turn the tables, must try to involve their spearhead Mbappé more, who has one last chance to bring the big-eared trophy to the French capital before joining Real Madrid in summer.
