Union Berlin continues to build its squad for the first Champions League season. Now a deal with Chelsea FC has been made. Striker Fofana comes to the old foresterā€™s house.

Union Berlin has made the loan deal with David Datro Fofana perfect. As the Bundesliga club announced, the 20-year-old Ivorian is coming to Berlin from Chelsea for a season. The transfer had already been indicated in the past few days.

Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde FK in Norway earlier this year. The young attacker and three-time international player from Ivory Coast was unable to earn a regular place there. He only played three times in the Premier League, once in the FA Cup.

Nevertheless, Union builds on the skills of the striker. ā€œDavidā€™s pace and his flexible attacking qualities are of great interest to us. We want another dangerous player who will give our attacking game additional impetus,ā€ said Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert.

In view of the Champions League qualification, Union wants to strengthen its squad across the board. Sven Michel (FC Augsburg) left the club in attack. It is also possible to say goodbye to top scorer Sheraldo Becker in the direction of the Premier League. Mikkel Kaufmann has already been signed by FC Copenhagen. In the closing stages of last season, Becker and Kevin Behrens were regarded as set in attack. At Jordan Siebatcheu, the Irons hope for a leap in performance in the second Union year.

Fofana wants to give his career in Berlin new impetus. ā€œUnion has developed extremely well in recent years and Iā€™m very excited to be a part of it in the new season. The club has worked hard for me for a long time and I want to repay that with good performances,ā€ he said quoted in a club announcement.
