CAGLIARI. A sea of sails. A colorful fleet has landed at the small port of Marina Piccola, which until 5 September will be engaged in the waters of the Poetto in a series of national regattas reserved for dinghies and youth tables. It was the 36th Primavela Cup that kicked off yesterday in the Gulf of Angels, after the spectacular inauguration in the presence of the authorities and the president of the Italian Sailing Federation Francesco Ettorre. Over a thousand sailors involved, coming from all Italian clubs, who peacefully invaded Marina Piccola to participate in the spectacular kermesse, a traditional baptism of water in the competitive field for the very young helmsmen. Ninety-six compete on behalf of the third zone, which corresponds to sailing Sardinia. The largest fleet is that of the Optimists (233), followed by Open Skiff (125) and Techno 293 (79), the youth class of sailboards. The Primavela Cup, with the 17th President’s Cup and the Italian Under 17 O’pen Skiff Championship at the same time, will be followed by the Italian Youth Championships in single classes, which will last until 5 September. The event is organized by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) in collaboration with the consortium made up of the Yacht Club Cagliari, the Italian Naval League Cagliari and the Windsurfing Club Cagliari. To cope with the large number of racers present and the different characteristics of the dinghies competing in the 36th Primavela Cup, the organizing committee has arranged for the positioning of three different regatta areas per class. Two, closer to the Poetto beach, one for the O’pen Skiff and the other for the Techno 293 sailboards. Further away, the regatta course for the Optimists. And on the debut day of the Primavera Cup, characterized by the libeccio, Sardinians immediately highlighted: Sara Murru (Lega Navale Sulcis) third overall and first in the O’pen Skipp. Third position also for Diego Marghinotti (Windsurfing Club Cagliari) in the Techno 293 board. Tomorrow the last decisive tests to give space from 2 September to the Italian youth championships in single. (Sergio Casano)
