the case
It all started a few days ago at the Tokyo Olympics. Davide Cassani, head of the Italian national cycling team, had to leave Japan immediately after the road tests, without being able to attend the track races that would then bring two podiums to the men’s sector: the gold of the team pursuit and the Viviani’s bronze in the omnium. Immediately a case broke out: Cassani exonerated on the field? “No, his departure from Tokyo had already been scheduled for that day – specified the new federal president Cordiano Dagnoni -, because after the appointment of Roberto Amadio as blue team manager, Cassani was only responsible for the road sector”.
The coach from Romagna, however, had not taken it well and with great correctness, the coach had added that he would only speak after an exchange of views with Dagnoni at the end of the Games. Just yesterday there was the long-awaited interview, from which it emerged that Cassani will no longer be the national team coach but could have another role. «It was a frank chat – the technician limited himself to comment, visibly embittered -. Now I will take a couple of days to decide and respond to the president. ” Which was more precise: «Davide has done a lot for cycling, for us it is an added value and no one has kicked him out. But as a technician he didn’t get the desired results. I proposed him a different role and in the coming days we will formalize the new skills ».
But who will then lead the Azzurri of the road in the upcoming European Championships in Trentino (8-12 September) and in the following World Championships in Leuven in Belgium (19-26 September)? “It could be Amadio himself who manages the two events – added Dagnoni -, but then we will have to proceed with the appointment of a new coach”. Who will be? Probably a sporting director of some World Tour team, with a part time contract for our national team. –
