Acqui Terme (AL)

After two years of forced break, the 2021 Youth Team Chess Championships took place on 31 October in Acqui Terme, in the presence of almost 350 young people between 10 and 18 years old, coming from all over Italy. The Ivrea Chess Society under 12 finished in sixth place out of 15 participants, paying a false start.

The formula provided for the presence of four boards per team. The Ivrea Under 12 team lined up Sergio Pilo, Marco Antonino, Amedeo Amariucai, Matilde Chiarotto and Gabriele Borgesio, led by Filippo Chiarotto recently appointed vice president of the Ivrea club. Ivrea’s team got off to a bad start, with defeats against Prato and Bologna. After absorbing the initial hard blow, the Ivrea chess players had a quick redemption in the next two rounds, with convincing victories against the Asti club in the third round and the Castelletto team in the fourth round. Finally, there was a draw with regrets in the match against Bergamo, and then the rest period (the group was with an odd number).

The team thus closed the tournament in sixth position on a lot of fifteen teams, improving the rankings of the previous editions of Gabicce and Arco. Among the individual scores, the 4.5 points out of 5 by Sergio Pilo (gold medal of the first board) and 3 out of 5 by Matilde Chiarotto are worth mentioning. A confirmation of the tradition of youth chess activity that the Piazza Primo Maggio club has been carrying out since 1983. New generations of chess players are proposing themselves in Canavese. The club’s calendar now continues with the Autumn Cup, in its thirty-first edition, and the weekend tournament next November 19th / 21st. –
