The “Sports Cup” China Urban National Go Team League kicked off a few days ago. In the first game of the “First Demonstration Tournament”, the Xi’an team defeated the Guangzhou team 3:2, becoming the first winning team in this brand-new event.

The national Go team competition is an innovative competition system that has emerged in recent years. The competition consists of 5 stages, namely children (under 15 years old), youth (16-40 years old), middle-aged (41-55 years old), senior (over 55 years old) and women (no age limit), a total of 5 sets. The outcome determines the final result. This competition system emphasizes the national character and integrity, which can fully reflect the comprehensive level of Go in a place and mobilize the overall development of the local Go project. The establishment of the China Urban National Go Team League aims to thoroughly implement the general policy of national fitness, build a higher-level public service system for national fitness, strengthen the supply-side reform and innovation of Go events, and extensively carry out “National Go” activities to further mobilize prefectures and counties. Be proactive, attract more Go fans to participate in the competition, and meet the needs of the majority of Go fans during the epidemic. Lin Jianchao, chairman of the China Weiqi Association, said that this event is a large-scale mass event in the sports field, especially in the field of Weiqi, in order to implement the Party Central Committee and the State Council’s decision to establish a unified national market. The fundamental purpose of the event is to implement the policy of national sports and national Go, and to attract the broadest Go fans to actively participate in their own and mass Go activities.

This competition consists of two groups: county group and prefecture group. It is divided into two stages: divisional competition and finals, both of which are held in the form of online games. The regional competitions are organized by provincial-level Weiqi associations. All competitions will be completed at the end of May. Each province (region and city) will produce 1 prefecture-level team and 1 county team to participate in the finals. Due to the campus epidemic prevention and control reasons, the first set of this competition is adjusted to 15-25 years old (youth), and the second set is adjusted to 26-40 years old (youth). The finals were held in early and mid-June, and finally produced the national championship. After the finals, the Chinese Weiqi Association will also hold an offline national Weiqi team championship in Hefei. In the first game of the “First Demonstration Tournament”, the Xi’an team played against the Guangzhou team. After more than two hours of fierce competition, the Xi’an team defeated the Guangzhou team 3:2 and won the first victory of this new competition. Among them, the Xi’an team Qishou Shan Junzhe, Wang Xu, and Xia Yang won the game, while Du Chenglie and Zhao Tianchen lost to their opponents.Text/Yan Bintu, Chief Reporter of Xi’an Newspaper All Media/China Go Association
