Cinema, covid effect on ‘Hotel Transylvania 4’: only available in streaming – Magazine

by admin

Maybe we are not facing the rain of slips of almost a year ago, but the Coronavirus pandemic continues to worry and Sony Pictures Animation has decided to run for cover: after postponing the release of ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage ‘(from September to mid-October) now it’s up to ‘Hotel Transylvania 4’. The animated film, which will arrive in Italy with the title ‘Hotel Transylvania: a monstrous exchange’, skip the cinemas and land directly in streaming, probably on Amazon Prime Video. Or rather, this is certainly his destiny in the United States, while there is a hope (actually faint) that the Italian release scheduled for 2 September can be confirmed. Let’s proceed in order.

No cinema, ‘Hotel Transylvania 4’ is out in streaming

Meanwhile, to put a spoke in the wheels of film distribution is
the Delta variant, the one that is currently leading the spread of the Coronavirus in the world. Since the situation in the United States is still difficult, and since the ideal target of ‘Hotel Transylvania 4’, that is children, is not vaccinated, the real risk is that cinema screenings are deserted. it is therefore normal for the producers of Sony Pictures Animation to make their decisions based on what is going on at home, for example disinterested in what is happening in Italy. Amazon Studios will hardly give up on worldwide exclusivity and therefore it makes sense to believe that the new ‘Hotel Transylvania’ will only have a streaming distribution.

Why does it come out on Prime Video and not on Netflix?

In all this, we are talking about Amazon Prime Video because it is the giant that Variety magazine mentions when addressing the issue.
In theory, Sony Pictures Animation has a privileged relationship with Netflix, of which he distributed ‘The Mitchells Against the Machines’, ‘The Wishing Dragon’ and ‘Alive’.
However, it seems that Amazon has put 100 million dollars on the plate in exchange for the possibility of streaming ‘Hotel Transylvania 4’ on Prime Video: a figure that is most likely higher than the production budget (the previous three chapters cost around 80 million each). In short, having to run for cover and try not to lose money due to the pandemic, the solution proposed by Amazon seems the best possible, all things considered.

In the meantime, here’s the (old) trailer in Italian
