The Barcelona hearing set for this Tuesday, March 19 will determine whether former Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves, who was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault, will be allowed to leave prison or remain incarcerated, as reported by TVE.
Alves’ legal team has requested his release while awaiting a final ruling, with a decision expected at the upcoming hearing starting at 9:00 a.m.
On March 8, Alves’ lawyer, Inés Guardiola, filed an appeal against the Barcelona Court’s sentence and requested a hearing to address his client’s potential release until a final decision is reached.
As the 41-year-old athlete nears the completion of a quarter of his sentence, he may soon become eligible to apply for prison permits.
In addition to the four and a half years in prison, the Barcelona Court imposed a fine of 150,000 euros on Alves, along with supervised release for five years post-release and a nine and a half-year prohibition from approaching the victim. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
