Mourning in the world of journalism. David Messina, doyen of sports journalism and football great, has died at the age of 92. For 15 years he was also president of Glgs-Ussi Lombardia, the group of sports journalists who reported it, expressing its condolences for the passing of a “master” of the profession.
Born in Palermo, he graduated in Law. He had started his career in Sicily as a local correspondent for Tuttosport, only to be soon called to Milan due to his professional qualities.
Davide Messina has worked for La Stampa, Il Corriere dello Sport and , where his signature has always been at the forefront of the football pages. As well as a television commentator on Telenova. For everyone he was “the master”. A title that was given to him above all “for having been one of the pioneers, if not the inventor, of transfer market reporting in times long gone”, as he wrote on his website Glgs-Ussi Lombardia. And again: «His participation as an author and host in sports TV programs is also noteworthy, as well as that of the author of football-themed books».
