De Jong and Pedri injured and unavailable for several weeks with FC Barcelona

The concern around the two FC Barcelona midfielders was confirmed by the Catalan club this Monday. Frenkie de Jong suffers from a sprain of the external ligament of his right ankle. Pedri relapsed with a third hamstring injury in his right thigh this season. Both were injured during the draw in Bilbao (0-0) on Sunday.

The duration of unavailability of the two players was not specified by FC Barcelona. But according to the Spanish press, they should be sidelined for more than a month and therefore miss the return match against Naples in the round of 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday March 12.

The young Spanish international should not be put back for the friendly matches with his national team. La Roja must face Colombia in London on March 22, then welcome Brazil to the brand new Santiago-Bernabeu stadium.

FC Barcelona coach Xavi deplores the “missing” linked to the loss of these two players. “They are two very influential players in our game, two very important players.” De Jong and Pedri join Gavi and Balde in the infirmary, two other Barça players unavailable until the end of the season.
