The German soccer players have taken on demanding tasks for the Olympic Games.

The European vice-champions will meet in Group B against the four-time Olympic champions USA, the fourth-placed World Cup team Australia as well as Zambia and Morocco. This was the result of the draw on Wednesday evening in Paris.

Interim national coach Horst Hrubesch was nevertheless optimistic: “I’m actually very satisfied. With Australia you know what to expect. With the USA we also know what’s going on. Zambia or Morocco as a third game actually fits in quite well “, said Hrubesch, “this has to be a group that is also feasible for us.”

The games will be played twice in Marseille (July 25th/28th) and in Saint-Etienne (July 31st). The top two teams in each group make it to the Olympic quarter-finals, and the two best third teams also qualify for the round of the last eight.

Zambia and Morocco will play for last place in April

The two participants from the African Association (CAF) will be identified at the beginning of April. The division into the pots was based on placement in the world rankings. Due to the constellation with two European teams in Pot 1, it was already clear before the draw that Germany would come into the USA group from Pot 2.

With the away win in the game for third place in the Nations League in the Netherlands (2-0), Germany, the 2016 Olympic champion, secured the last European ticket for the fight for the medals in Paris (July 25th to August 10th). .
