Duplantis Breaks World Record at Diamond League Xiamen Station
Swedish pole vaulter Duplantis made history at the Diamond League Xiamen Station on the 20th, breaking his own world record with a jump of 6.24 meters. This marks his eighth time breaking the world record in this event.
The competition saw Duplantis secure the championship early on with a jump of 6 meters before thrilling audiences by raising the bar to 6.24 meters, surpassing his previous record of 6.23 meters set last year. Reflecting on his decision to attempt the record-breaking height, Duplantis stated, “Everything is ready today, it just depends on what I want to do.”
Following a successful jump, Duplantis expressed his satisfaction with the day’s conditions, crediting the audience for providing him with the energy needed to achieve such a feat. He added that the 6.24-meter mark was not his limit, hinting at more impressive performances in the future.
In addition to Duplantis’s record-breaking performance, Chinese athlete Liu Dezhu set a new national record in the men’s 800 meters, finishing ninth in the competition with a time of 1 minute, 45 seconds, and 66 seconds.
Other highlights of the event included Chinese veteran Gong Lijiao winning the women’s discus final, and American sprinter Coleman defending his title in the men’s 100-meter race.
The Diamond League Xiamen Station showcased top performances from athletes around the world, with Duplantis’s record-breaking jump stealing the show and further solidifying his status as one of the all-time greats in pole vaulting.
