D’Introno, mission to Udine with the under 20 players

Luigi D’Introno from Pavia has an important task: to help the under 20 women’s basketball team defend the title of European champions. The doctor has been in Udine for three days, at the meeting of the promising blue who from Monday will take the field in Sopron, Hungary, with the task of confirming the gold medal won last year. The first part of the preparation took place in the cool of Folgaria, now the blue ones are in Udine. “The European championship starts on Friday and will end on Saturday 16 July – explains the medical director of the under 20 women’s national team – it will be played in Sopron, a place I know well”.

“In the last ten years, I’ve been there six times with the national team – smiles D’Introno, 59 – I know the problems, starting from the heat, which we also fight with food”.

The last edition of a European championship was played three years ago, then the stop due to the pandemic, that time it was the blue who put the gold medal around their necks. Last year the FIBA ​​organized some challengers and even in that case the blue won.

“As soon as I arrived I immediately had to deal with problems that we are slowly settling – says the doctor from Pavia – The under 20 has been the national team entrusted to me for some years now”. The opponents of the group of blue will be Sweden, Finland and Belgium. This year’s under 20 is reserved for athletes born in 2002 and 2003 but there is also Matilde Villa, a rising star of Italian women’s basketball. «The technical staff has changed – adds D’Introno – D’Orlando has accepted the proposal to coach abroad and now there are Andrea Mazzon and the assistant Angelo Gianolla. Of the historical group only the physiotherapist Irene Munari remained ». In the last seven years, D’Introno has won five medals, two of which are gold, two silver and one bronze. «A palmarès of which I am proud – closes the doctor who will be the health manager of Broni Basket rosa for next season -.
