Discovering the beautiful Val di Gresta, the organic district of Garda Trentino

Known as the organic garden of Trentino, Val di Gresta becomes part of Garda Trentino this year. With its landscapes, the rich production of vegetables and the pleasant bike and trekking routes, it further enriches the territorial offer of Garda Trentino, with particular focus on conscious and ‘naturally’ slow tourism.

Discovering the beautiful Val di Gresta, the organic district of Garda Trentino

A place to seek out, outside of the most crowded destinations on the valley floor, in the deep greenery at the foot of Mount Stivo… is Val di Gresta, the rural heart of Garda Trentino, where beauty coincides with goodness!

The first organic district in Trentino, it develops between 200 meters of the Piana di Loppio and 1300 meters of Passo Bordola. Here the fields and vegetable gardens follow one another, well cared for, delimited by the characteristic dry stone walls, and offer a variety of healthy and tasty vegetables.
The agricultural soul is favored by the encounter between the unique characteristics of the soil, the positioning of the fields and the mild temperatures. Val di Gresta, in fact, enjoys southern exposure and proximity to Lake Garda, which balances the beneficial effects of the Ora.

Added to this original vocation are organic agricultural practices, sustainable and intimately linked to the rhythm of the seasons, to a time that is not marked by clocks but by natural events.

Bike and trekking in Val di Gresta

A visit to Val di Gresta invites you to embrace this rhythm, to slow down and enjoy every minute. Even when you decide to practice physical activity outdoors, the regenerating effect of greenery is guaranteed!

From the trenches to the top of Monte Creino

As happens when walking along the flat path between the cultivated fields from the trenches to the top of Monte Creino. The excursion, not very demanding and suitable for everyone, enters the woods where, on the sides of the road, there are numerous “environmental art” installations created by pupils from the valley’s primary schools. The itinerary continues up to the first remains of what was an important Austro-Hungarian artillery stronghold and observatory; following the trench, you reach the top of Monte Creino, a spectacular terrace overlooking Lake Garda.

From Passo Bordala to Monte Biaena

Equally accessible and characterized by a wonderful panorama, the route from Passo Bordala leads to Monte Biaena. The departure for this walk is from Passo Bordala between the Gresta Valley and Vallagarina. Initially the road is asphalted, crosses some meadows, and then plunges into the woods. Already halfway, you can enjoy the panorama of Monte Stivo, Val di Gresta and Lake Garda in the background. Continue on the path past the “Capanna Monte Biaena” refuge and reach the meadows at the summit: the view opens onto Vallagarina and its mountains; in spring and early summer the meadows are in bloom, among peonies and mountain anemones the view is priceless.

The Val di Gresta Trail Tour

For lovers of two wheels, however, Passo Bordala is the arrival point of the Val di Gresta Trail Tour. A panoramic MTB route, rather long and challenging due to the various changes in slope, which embraces the entire territory: a first part it develops on a slight slope and downhill, but the long climb up to Passo Bordala soon begins.
Conversely, the road route to Monte Velo, included in the “Great climbs of Trentino”, is short but intense, for true climbers. A must for all road bike enthusiasts, it extends for almost 13 kilometres, much of which is in the shade, to reach Passo Santa Barbara at an altitude of 1170 metres. In the classic variant, this itinerary offers a truly pleasant descent from Val di Gresta towards Loppio.

Natural attractions are thus explored; among new blooms and heady scents, the senses and… the taste buds are awakened, thanks to the possibility of tasting the typical products. In Val di Gresta the taste for traditions and the pleasure of hospitality have been maintained, together with that for food, which is expressed in a rich gastronomic offer.
Cauliflower, cabbage, cabbage, lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes, courgettes and aubergines, wild garlic and onion are just some of the most popular products; genuine base of local dishes.
