Dodgers send Michael Busch, Yency Almonte to Cubs

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a big move on Thursday, acquiring two promising prospects from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for one of their top prospects and a reliever.

The Dodgers received left-hander Jackson Ferris and patrolman Zyhir Hope in the trade. Ferris, 19, is ranked as the eighth-best prospect in the Cubs organization and is known for his three-pitch repertoire that generates a high number of swings and misses. Meanwhile, Hope, 18, had an impressive showing in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .286 with three home runs and nine RBIs in just 11 games.

In exchange, the Cubs received Michael Busch, the Dodgers’ second-best prospect, and reliever Yency Almonte. The 26-year-old Busch, who can play third base and second base, is ranked as the No. 44 prospect on MLB Pipeline. Almonte, on the other hand, made 49 appearances for the Dodgers in 2023, posting a 5.06 ERA.

This trade is part of the Dodgers’ busy offseason as they continue to bolster their roster for the upcoming season. With the addition of Ferris and Hope, the team looks to add more depth and talent to their organization. It will be exciting to see how these prospects develop and contribute to the Dodgers in the future.
