Euroleague: Alba has no chance in Barcelona

As of: February 9, 2024 11:37 p.m

As expected, the Alba Berlin basketball players suffered their 21st defeat in the 25th game of the Euroleague. On Friday evening (February 9, 2024), the Berliners lost to the heavy favorites FC Barcelona by a score of 77:93 (39:51), despite a good initial phase.

The Bundesliga team remains second to last in the table. The best Berlin throwers were Tim Schneider with 14 and Matteo Spagnolo with eleven points.
Coach Israel Gonzalez was able to rely on world champion Johannes Thiemann again after recovering from a sprained lumbar spine. Sterling Brown got a break for that. The Berliners, who surprisingly won the first leg 74:70 in mid-December, initially held up very well against the big favorites.

Result cosmetics at the end

Both offensive lines initially dominated and so there was a real throwing competition in the first quarter. Alba always stuck with it and was even able to take the lead with 34:31 at the beginning of the second period. But then the Catalans shifted gears and the guests left too much behind. After a 5:20 run, the deficit had grown considerably at the break.
This continues after the break. The young Berlin team was now formally presented and Barcelona pulled away – up to 31 points (78:47). Now it was a class difference. In the last quarter, Alba was able to make some cosmetic gains, but ultimately had no chance.
