“We are not happy about the Rangnick cancellation, it came as a surprise”

FC Bayern’s search for a coach never ends. After Ralf Rangnick’s cancellation, the people of Munich have to reorient themselves. Sports director Max Eberl gives insights into Bayern’s search and squad planning for the coming season.
Immediately after the game, the focus turned to next Wednesday. After the deserved 3-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart, the FC Bayern players thanked the fans who had traveled with them and immediately moved on from the meaningless game in the Bundesliga. The focus immediately turned to the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at Real Madrid on Wednesday (9 p.m., DAZN and in the WELT live ticker).
“If there was any day to finish the game here as quickly as possible, then it is today,” said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel on Saturday evening. “It’s now a matter of preparing for three days so that we can hopefully take the final step on Wednesday,” said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.
Munich’s sports director Max Eberl also sees it that way. “The game is over. Our goal is to win every game. We couldn’t do that yesterday. Now our focus is on the game in Madrid,” said Eberl. The 50-year-old spoke on “BILD SPORT”, the talk on WELT TV, about Bayern’s chances in the Champions League, Bayern’s search for a coach and squad planning for the coming season.

… Ralf Rangnick’s rejection: “He unexpectedly canceled on us. Not much else happened. I understand speculation and rumors. I’ve never commented on names much. I won’t talk about it until everything is signed. The rejection was surprising, that’s life. We’re not happy about the cancellation either. But when one door closes, another opens again. It’s a moving area.”

Even former Bayern professionals have shown understanding that Ralf Rangnick does not want to become the new head coach of the German soccer record champions in Munich. Christian Falk, head of football at the BILD Group, explains the background to the cancellation.
… the trainer search: “I try to stay out of the speculation. We are looking for a trainer who will work with us in the medium and long term. That is our goal. I’m thinking very, very much. We will find a coach about whom there have previously been a lot of conversations and discussions in the club. I think I know that the first solution hasn’t always worked in the past either. We’re clarifying, we’re checking – that hasn’t worked so far, but we’ll manage it.”
… Joachim Löw: “He was very clear about it. He doesn’t want to coach Bayern Munich.”
…. the second leg at Real Madrid: “Our complete focus is on the game in Madrid. This is our big chance to improve on a difficult season. We will try everything to be la bestia negra and win at the Bernabeu.”

…. the squad planning: “The status is that all players apart from Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr have contracts. The squad is not falling apart. We have already had discussions with all players. Of course it is important for players who becomes a coach. Nevertheless, we already have new players in mind and who we would like to extend.”
…Jonathan Tah: “We think about it. After the end of the season with the new coach, we will try to convince players to play for FC Bayern.
… Florian Wirtz: “When a player of that caliber is on the market, you have to deal with it. Nevertheless, it is possible that he will cancel.”
