Foil World Cup Hong Kong: Hong Kong, China team wins men’s team championship
The International Foil World Cup in Hong Kong, China concluded with an exciting finish as the Hong Kong team emerged victorious in the men’s team competition. Led by Tokyo Olympics men’s individual champion Zhang Jialang, the Hong Kong, China team showcased their skills and determination throughout the tournament.
In a thrilling final match against the Italian team, the Hong Kong team staged a remarkable comeback after trailing in the first seven games. With a standout performance from Cai Junyan in the eighth game, the team managed to overtake their opponents with a score of 40:38. Zhang Jialang sealed the victory by defeating Marini 5:3, securing a total score of 45:41 and clinching the championship title.
Earlier in the day, the Chinese team had defeated the British team and the United States team in the initial rounds. Despite a loss to the Italian team in the semi-finals, the Chinese team put up a strong fight in the bronze medal match against South Korea.
In the women’s team competition, the Chinese team faced tough competition and ultimately finished seventh after a loss to the French team in the quarterfinals. The Italian team emerged victorious in the women’s team final, defeating the French team to claim the gold medal. The Ukrainian team secured the bronze medal in a closely contested competition.
