Manchester United have fined Marcus Rashford more than 760,000 euros, the equivalent of two weeks’ wages, for missing a training session by feigning illness.
The striker had missed training before the FA Cup match between the Red Devils and Newport due to illness. Instead, the English tabloids published photographs of the night Rashford spent in Belfast. Many photos documented the very high alcohol content day of the United centre-forward, in the company of his footballer friend Ro-Shaun Williams. The night ended when Rashford fell asleep, still dressed, in the hotel room rented for the occasion.
Photos that contradicted the version of the player given to his club that he had not shown up for the pre-match training. Urgently summoned to the headquarters for a face-to-face meeting with the management and his coach, an apology, also extended to his teammates, was not enough for Rashford to avoid the heavy fine.
