The 2024 Indonesia Badminton Masters has reached the second round of the main draw, and already four Indonesian women’s singles players have secured a spot in the quarterfinals due to their outstanding performances. Chen Yufei, the “first sister” of the national feather team, unfortunately retired due to injury, but the other five players from the Chinese team have shown exceptional skill in the tournament.
Among the Chinese players, No. 6 seed Han Yue defeated Thailand’s Busanlan 21-10, 21-17, while No. 8 seed Wang Zhiyi overcame Japanese player Aya Ohhori with a score of 21-18, 21-12. Gao Fangjie also secured a place in the quarterfinals by defeating Canadian player Li Wenshan 21-13, 21-14. In a “China Derby,” No. 4 seed He Bingjiao emerged victorious against her teammate Zhang Yiman with a score of 21-12, 21-11.
The four Chinese players will face each other in the quarterfinals, with Wang Zhiyi competing against Gao Fangjie and Han Yue facing off against He Bingjiao. The winners of these matches will advance to the semi-finals, ensuring that the national badminton women’s singles has already locked in a finals seat.
With the absence of top players such as An Xiying, Tai Ziying, and Marin, the field is wide open for other players to compete for the championship. In the lower half, Indonesian player Mariska, Japanese veteran Nozomi Okuhara, and Thai veteran Ratchanok are all considered popular candidates to enter the finals.
In other matches of the day, three pairs of national badminton women’s doubles and the mixed doubles team also advanced to the quarterfinals, showing the strength and talent of the Chinese players in the tournament.
The Indonesia Badminton Masters has proven to be an exciting and competitive event, and fans are eager to see who will emerge as the ultimate champions in the singles and doubles competitions.
