The dream in the courtyards of Magliana, the last minute salvation with Triestina, the jersey exchanged with Albertini and now a great adventure with Gelbison third in the standings in group I of Serie D, in the wake of the two big Messina. Joseph Ferazzoli, a Cilentan technician, speaks without filters with a nostalgic look at the past and a present that makes him still dream like a child in Roman villages.
Mister, would you have imagined such a season at the beginning of the year?
This kind of season no, I would be a liar if I said yes. I was optimistic despite the fact that the start was not the best, I knew I was part of a good club that allowed me to always work at my best, and the team played well. Little by little, with the adjustments we made during the race, we have improved and all have grown. I was optimistic but I did not think I would have a championship at this level.
What was the real secret of his team?
The great sense of belonging. We have become a real team, the boys live all day together and even those who do not play participate in this beautiful ride we are doing.
Take stock of this season …
Very positive, but if we stop from here to the end it makes no sense what we have done up to now. I hope to make the same speech in seven games, when the championship ends.
After Agropoli he said he did not expect such a call. Why?
After eight games I resigned to Agropoli and with the lockdown I have completely disconnected from the world of football. No phone calls, contacts, friendships, I knew it would be very complicated to receive another call at that moment. The call from Gelbison came while I was playing paddle with my son, my brother and my niece and when the manager asked me to have a chat I immediately went down to Vallo. I had taken information as everyone does, but I did not imagine joining such an organized and professional company. When I tell my friends about the rossoblu environment I say: “Eating, drinking and sleeping”. The four-star hotels, the salary always on time, the camp never lacks anything. They are fundamental requirements to work well, I am proud and proud to have come across such a company.
You have coached many teams. What is the experience that has given you the most?
It would be easy to say Serie A in Udine as second to Gigi Del Neri, I say salvation with Triestina. It was a desperate season where there was no money or company and we played the playouts away from home. We drew in the 118th minute, 1-1 in Dro with 500 fans from Trieste, they had “yes and no” 20 fans. We won at the end of 3-1, it was one of the greatest satisfactions since I have been a coach. Trieste is a great city, I hope it will return soon at least in Serie B.
And as a footballer?
There are three important moments. When I won the championship in Cosenza with Piacenza for promotion to Serie A, when I made my debut in the top flight by exchanging the shirt with Albertini, after a 0-0 against Milan at home, and the header against Milan. Foggia, after which I turned to the linesman to see if it had been canceled. There I came to mind the buildings and courtyards of Magliana when I was a child and I scored goals dreaming of rejoicing in Serie A.
Now Gelbison is a big player in D. What do you expect from the last seven races?
I expect that every day when I go to the camp, the boys will respond as they have done so far. After that, what will be the final result we will necessarily accept it because it will be the response of the field. I hope to coach in Lega Pro in the next few years.
Do you have any regrets this season?
The beginning, the draw with Rende where there was a regular goal canceled, the penalty with Messina, the goal canceled with Sant’Agata. But I’m not crying, I’m very satisfied with this championship.
Was there a specific moment when you realized Gelbison was going to be a promotion contender?
The first leg victory with Acireale was the perfect match. There I understood that we would have an important championship.
President Puglisi has always spoken highly of her. What do you see in your future?
I honestly don’t know, the important thing is that President Puglisi continues to have this ambition and this important project. When he makes the choices, I have to present myself in front of him with good performances. I think about trying to win these last seven games, then I’ll talk to the club.
