Giant slalom at Kronplatz: 100 points: Gut-Behrami celebrates 42nd World Cup victory

As of: January 30, 2024 2:49 p.m

The competition couldn’t get past the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami in the giant slalom at Kronplatz. Alice Robinson and Sara Hector shared second place.

Ski racer Lara Gut-Behrami is in top shape. After winning the Super-G on Sunday in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Swiss followed suit just two days later at Kronplatz. In the eighth giant slalom of the season, the 32-year-old confidently achieved her third success of the season in this discipline on the demanding “Erta”.

The leadership trio refuses to be pushed off the podium

The 32-year-old was able to convince in the first round. She was over half a second ahead of New Zealand’s Alice Robinson (+ 0.59 seconds) and Sweden’s Sara Hector (+ 0.68 seconds), who had already won in Jasna, Slovakia.

High-quality technician Hector took advantage of her chance between the wide goals in the final for third place on the podium. Since Robinson was able to achieve exactly the same time at the end, it was a shared second place. However, they couldn’t get past Gut-Behrami. She celebrated the 42nd World Cup victory of her career with a lead of 1.09 seconds. In the “all-time” best list, she drew level with the Swede Anja Pärson after World Cup victories. So far only five runners have been more successful.

100 points for the overall World Cup account

This also means that the gap in the fight for the overall World Cup is shrinking. With 1,209 points, Mikaela Shiffrin, who is currently taking a break, is still in the lead ahead of Gut-Behrami, who was able to reduce the score to 1,114 points with the win.

Shiffrin slips in the World Cup standings

In the giant slalom World Cup, Gut-Behrami is now leading with 585 points ahead of Federica Brignone (500 points). Like the Swiss, the Italian has already won two races in this discipline. With a gap of 16 hundredths of a second to a podium place, anything would have been possible even for the fifth fastest in the first run. But the 33-year-old missed the podium and ended up “only” sixth.

Shiffrin lost her third place in the giant slalom standings to Hector (452) and is now only fourth with 429.

Only German starter only 50.

The only German starter in the field of 55 Alpine riders, Fabiana Dorigo, did not qualify for the final of the top 30. The Munich woman started the race with the high starting number 50 – and also finished 50. Her gap to Gut-Behrami was already 5 .0 seconds.

Without Shiffrin, Vlhova and Grenier

Three of Gut-Behrami’s top competitors were not at the start. After a major fall during the World Cup downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, US star Shiffrin got off lightly, but canceled all starts until further notice.

Petra Vlhova, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during the giant slalom in Jasna, was also missing, as was Canadian Valerie Grenier. The winner of the Kranjska Gora race also fell on the descent in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
