Former President Alberto Fujimori of Peru has announced that a new malignant tumor has been detected and he will undergo medical treatment. In a video posted on his YouTube channel and X account (formerly Twitter), Fujimori, 85, revealed the diagnosis and his plans for treatment.
Fujimori stated that he was first diagnosed with cancer in his tongue 27 years ago and has since undergone six surgeries. The recent diagnosis confirmed a new malignant tumor, prompting him to seek treatment with his family.
This announcement comes after Fujimori was hospitalized in April for surgery related to his tongue injury, as reported by his daughter Keiko Fujimori. The former president was released from prison in December after a resolution by the Constitutional Court of Peru restored the humanitarian pardon granted by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.
Fujimori had been serving a 25-year prison sentence for crimes committed during his government, including qualified homicide and injuries in Barrios Altos and La Cantuta. His release was met with criticism from institutions like the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which had called for him to serve his sentence. Despite this, his family and supporters celebrated his freedom.
