ORISTANO. German sprinter Pascal Ackermann (Bora Hansgro) won the second stage of the “Italian Cycling Week-on the Roads of Sardinia”, which ran today starting from Sassari and finishing in Oristano. On the long finish straight in via Cagliari, Ackermann preceded the Hungarian Barnabas Peak (Team Bikeexcange) and the Belgian Sep Vanmarcke (Israel Start Up Nation).

The longest stage of the race organized by Natura Great Events and the Emilia Sports Group developed around a long action that saw five riders in command, from km 11 to km 118: the Ethiopian Tsgabu Grmay (Team Bikeexcange), the Swiss Simon Pellaud (Androni Giocattoli Sidermec), the Belgian Rune Herregodts (Sport Vlaanderen Baloise), the French Laurent Pichon (Team Arkea Samsic) and the Romanian Emil Dima (Giotti Victoria Savini Due).

Immediately after the reunion, near the ascent of del Valico La Madonnina, the riders of the Italian national team, Bora Hansgroe and Bahrain Victorius controlled the situation in the leading group with about forty units with some particularly active riders; among these Pellaud, Masnada, Neilands and Buitrago who attempted the attack about forty kilometers from the conclusion.

The last to attempt the solution of force was Fausto Masnada who, however, was joined by the group of the best seven kilometers from the finish. Inevitable therefore the sprint in compact ranks with Ackermann, career winner of two stages in the Giro d’Italia, first clearly ahead of Peak and Vanmarcke.
