Gong Lijiao wins gold in shot put at National Indoor Track and Field Championships

Xinhua News Agency, Tianjin, March 29 (Reporters Zhou Runjian and Zhang Zewei) – On the 29th, the 2024 National Indoor Track and Field Championships commenced in Tianjin with some thrilling performances. Gong Lijiao, representing the Hebei team, clinched the gold medal in the women’s shot put final, while Wu Yanni of the Sichuan team triumphed in the women’s 60-meter hurdles final.

Olympic champion Gong Lijiao claimed victory in the women’s shot put final with a remarkable throw of 19.35 meters. Reflecting on her win, Gong expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I trained rigorously during winter to ensure I am in peak form for the Paris Olympics.”

In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Wu Yanni topped the preliminaries with a personal best time of 8.10 seconds before storming to victory in the final with a time of 8.06 seconds. Wu attributed her success to her focus on self-improvement, emphasizing, “I strive to surpass my limits in every race, big or small. My only competition is with myself.”

Elsewhere, Zhong Tao of the Anhui team secured the men’s pole vault gold with a jump of 5.75 meters, while Huang Youchao from Sichuan clinched the men’s 60-meter final in 6.63 seconds. Hebei’s Tian Zizhong also shone in the men’s shot put final with a throw of 19.87 meters.

The excitement continues on the 30th as the event enters its second day, featuring competitions in women’s pole vault, men’s 1500 meters, and more exciting events.
