Manuel Lettenbichler continued his remarkable record in the FIM Hard Endurance World Championships, winning three of three, taking the lead at the Red Bull Abestone in Austria and winning the race across the line.
The German driver had a strong run in Italy, having previously won both the Xcross in Serbia and the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo in Austria. This time, the three consecutive championships were staged, and the outstanding performance far surpassed the second place Billy Bolt to become the biggest winner.
Bolt was in the front row of the World Championship after four rounds. Another driver, Mario Roman, rushed from 13th to 3rd on the race day.
It’s the brainchild of Hard Endurance star Michele Bosi, the no-nonsense Austrian Red Bull Abestone who immediately became a favorite of the Hard Endurance World Championship drivers after his debut last season.
In the mountains of Abetone in Tuscany, with just five hours to go on two laps of the hard route, fourth-placed Alfredo Gomez was the last driver to finish within five hours on Sunday. Close behind was Matthew Green, who finished with a career-high fifth in the junior division, while Graham Jarvis finished sixth.
An elated Green said after the race: “It’s been a crazy race, one tough stage after another is brutal. I’m feeling good and trying to adjust my rhythm and pace. I know Graham Jarvis is there for me. The rear, so that’s what keeps me going. It’s amazing to finish fifth.”
Lettenbichler and Bolt were again in control of the rhythm and pace, with the British driver leading by 45 minutes in Saturday’s qualifying session. But with the temperature soaring, Letti overtook within an hour of the race, while Bolt continued to grit his teeth and endure his injured wrist.
Bolt explained: “In fact, I fell after letting Mani pass and never pulled back a few minutes. He pulled a little bit and I pulled a little bit to third, so in the end The most important thing in a lap is to control the speed and rhythm well and make sure you can get back to the finish line safely.”
Once in the lead, Lettenbichler never stopped, and he put on a solid performance in the race, continuing to forge ahead on the final lap and with the checkered flag waving to extend the final lead to nine minutes.
The German rider said: “Three wins in a row was a big surprise, but it wasn’t what I expected at the beginning of the year. However, I felt good riding and that’s reflected in my results. This year the organizers are on the track Well done, the whole process was very hard.”
