Harmo, Yamaha’s electric outboard motor, debuts

by admin

The Japanese manufacturer’s zero-emission outboard is integrated directly onto the propeller and features a brand new steering control

It was one of the protagonists of the Genoa boat show: Harmo interprets the search for electrical solutions in an innovative way, which is now increasingly important in the nautical world. Yamaha has created this electric outboard with a completely innovative steering control and integrated into an intelligent “end-to-end” network, which consists of an electric propulsion unit, a remote control and a joystick for more intuitive operation. . The engine is based on Rim-drive technology for more efficient electric propulsion, when compared with a propeller of the same size. The innovation immediately catches the eye as Harmo is mounted around the outer edge of the propeller, allowing greater thrust at lower speeds than traditional engines guarantee, obviously at the same power.

JOYSTICK

Compared to standard electric motors, Harmo can be used to propel larger boats (currently it has been tested on boats up to approximately 6.4 meters) with lower power consumption. Compared to a thermal, it is evident that moving silently in the water, it guarantees the reduction of vibrations and noise, offering a much more comfortable driving experience. The steering offers smooth maneuvering and sharp, responsive turns thanks to a wide steering angle. Joystick control, based on the Helm Master EX system traditionally available only in the Yamaha Premium and High Power Outboard range, offers intuitive control and complete boat management without any effort. As for the installation, it is similar to that of traditional outboards, that is through a bracket positioned on the transom and is equipped with the tilt function to lift it from the water when not in use or if a boat requires grounding.

BREATH

Out of the ordinary is also the first Harmo motorized boat. It’s called Respiro and it’s a seven-meter built by Venmar, a Venetian shipyard specialized in the design and production of both taxi boats and unique pleasure boats. It is built by hand, with traditional techniques and particular attention to detail. The carbon fiber, linen and mahogany used for Respiro have made it incredibly stiff and light at just 210 kg, excluding engines and batteries. Thanks to the collaboration with the Cossutti studio, a unique package was created, intended for the owner who wants to enjoy the unique peace of mind while sailing, since the speed does not exceed 13 km / h. The retail version price (including motor and standard battery) is 73,200 euros.
