Ice Hockey World Championship: Germany also has to bow to the USA

Ice Hockey World Championship

Germany was narrowly beaten by a top team for the third time at the Ice Hockey World Championships. After defeats in Austria’s group A against the title favorites Sweden (0:1) and Finland (3:4), the team of head coach Harold Kreis also lost 2:3 to the USA in Tampere on Monday.

Goals from Samuel Soramies (31st) from the Augsburg Panthers outnumbered and Justin Schütz (40th) from the German champions EHC Red Bull Munich were not enough. AHL pro Ronnie Attard (26th), Sean Farrell of the Montreal Canadiens (46th) and Matt Coronato of the Calgary Flames (55th) scored for the favored US team.

Like Hungary, the Germans are still pointless and are under a lot of pressure in the fight for a place in the quarter-finals. “It hurts,” said NHL defender Moritz Seider. “Now we must not lose the thread. Now we have to find a way to get in a bit dirty.” For captain Moritz Müller, the match against the Americans was “perhaps the best” of the title fights in Finland and Latvia. But his team “unfortunately didn’t reward themselves again”.

Coronato shoots the 3: 2 for the USA

The United States beat Germany 3-2 at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Tampere.

After the tough opening program and two days without a game, Germany must now win against Denmark on Thursday (7:20 p.m.) to keep the chance of the play-off. The next opponent for the USA, who have won all three previous games, is Austria on Wednesday (3.20 p.m., live on ORF1). Already on Tuesday (3.20 p.m., live on ORF1) the team of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association (ÖEHV) will face Denmark.

As expected, David Nemecek (9th) gave the favorites the lead.
