After Leverkusen’s victory, the DAZN reporter made an embarrassing mistake

Leverkusen sets a club record in Freiburg. Florian Wirtz is once again the outstanding player. In an interview with the 20-year-old, a DAZN reporter then puts his foot in it. TV expert Sascha Bigalke struggles to keep his composure.
Florian Wirtz had just led Bayer Leverkusen to their next win of the season and taken another step towards the championship. The Werkself celebrated their 22nd win of the season with a 3-2 (2-1) win at SC Freiburg on Sunday – Bayer had never achieved so many in a Bundesliga season before.
After the game, Florian Wirtz answered questions on the DAZN streaming service and commented, among other things, on his remarkable goal to make it 1-0: “Finally a good hit,” said Wirtz, “and not against the post, but a nice shot in.” A little shot feint and then he passed well.”
It was a special afternoon for the 20-year-old anyway, replied DAZN reporter Mario Rieker and referred to the images recorded at that moment that showed Wirtz in close contact with a man and a woman in front of the stands immediately after the game. “Grandma and Grandpa?” asked Rieker. “No, those are actually my parents,” Wirtz replied.

After a short moment of silence, the questioner immediately apologized and resolved the situation in the best possible way: “Ah. Oh God, what a faux pas on my part. I’m sorry. Kind regards to the parents. But I think they look fresh,” said Rieker sympathetically, but had to admit to himself: “I can’t get out of this number.”

Wirtz accepted the faux pas without comment, while DAZN expert Sascha Bigalke, with a wide, pinched grin in the studio, suggested that he was very busy trying not to laugh out loud.
Wirtz scores, Streich is annoyed
Wirtz couldn’t care less anyway. The league leaders’ lead over pursuers FC Bayern Munich remains ten points ahead of the remaining eight match days. Freiburg is in danger of losing contact with the European Cup places.
After the interim equalizer by Ritsu Doan (10th), who canceled out Wirtz’s direct goal (2nd), Adam Hlozek (40th) scored again for Leverkusen in front of 34,700 spectators. Patrik Schick, who had already been celebrated three days earlier as the match winner in Bayer’s spectacular last-minute advance against Karabakh Agdam in the Europa League, added something worth seeing (53′). Yannik Keitel shortened the score again for Baden (79′).
Leverkusen’s brisk initial phase was by no means everything. Even after Freiburg’s quick equalizer by Doan, who deliberately pushed the ball into the bottom right corner, things continued to be entertaining. Bayer had a lot of possession, but SC also had their chances as a result of switching situations. Some fans had already seen the shot that Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl put into the side netting (24′).

SC coach Christian Streich, who had announced a decision about his future at the beginning of the week, loudly encouraged his team from the sidelines. “I really hope he continues. “That applies to everyone in the team and in the club. I really appreciate him and we had an extremely successful time together,” said captain Nicolas Höfler.
In the 37th minute, his team played a promising counterattack but didn’t finish it cleanly. Five minutes before the break, Bayer struck again. As a result of an unsuccessful rescue operation by Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, the ball ended up at Hlozek – and he scored to make it 1-2. “We gave everything. The second goal is bad in terms of football. But that just happens,” says Streich.
The second half also started as desired for Leverkusen, who are still unbeaten in 38 competitive games this season. Center forward Schick sent a cross from Jeremie Frimpong from the right side with a fine foot, but also a bit of luck, to the left inside post – from there the ball jumped into the net.
The Freiburg team, who have only won one of the last eight league games and crashed out of the Europa League at West Ham United (0-5) on Thursday, did not give up. Substitute Keitel scored in the follow-up and made things exciting again. Overall, Bayer deserved to win.
“We played a good game in the first half. Sure, Florian Wirtz scores an outstanding goal. But then we also had our opportunities,” said Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo angrily.
